Communications Committee
This committee is responsible for the direction, development, and quality control of all GSHP publications, including the GSHP web site.
Committee charges:
1. Assistance with writing, reviewing, and proofing of articles and information for the GSHP newsletter.
2. Provision of quality continuing education (CE) programs within the official publication of GSHP.
3. Interaction with GSHP members for the purposes of obtaining information to be included in the newsletter and evaluating the publication needs of the membership.
4. Work with the board to identify improvements to the GSHP website.
2009-2010 GSHP Communications Committee Chairs
GSHP Education Committee
This committee is responsible for planning, coordinating, and evaluating all educational content of the GSHP Annual, Winter, and End-of Summer meetings. The committee is also responsible for oversight of any program content when GSHP serves as the continuing education (C.E.) provider.
Committee charges:
1. Develop and maintain C.E. for GSHP to address and meet the educational needs of its membership.
2. Develop themes and identifying topics for educational meetings.
3. Solicit presentations, papers, and posters for GSHP meetings.
4. Handle program planning details (such as developing specific session objectives, providing moderators and members to introduce speakers).
5. Assist office staff in the promotion of educational meetings and site logistics.
6. Assist in arranging joint educational meetings with other organizations when warranted (subject to final approval of the Board).
7. Assist the Communication Council in identifying topics for the newsletter and other GSHP publications, as applicable.
8. Assist in obtaining funds to support educational programming (coordinated through the GSHP office)

Industry Relations Committee
This committee serves as the liaison between GSHP and members of the pharmaceutical industry to further enhance their relationships by fostering an environment of mutual understanding through communication and feedback.
Committee charges:
- Improve GSHP and the pharmaceutical industry relations
- Increase industry involvement in GSHP through participation in GSHP activities and GSHP industry membership (associate members).

Legislative Committee
This committee is responsible for informing the GSHP membership and Board of Directors of important legislation and regulations and how they will impact pharmacy practice in organized health care settings in Georgia.
Committee charges:
1. Provide GSHP Board with information regarding pharmacy and related legislations and get feedback on organization's position.
2. Provide GSHP members with information on pharmacy-related information and GSHP's position.
3. Organize grassroots efforts to educate legislators on key legislation.
4. Report back to GSHP Board and members on national phartmacy issues.
5. Increase GSHP's partipication in MIP day.
6. Legislative Communication with GHA and GPhA.
7. The committee Chair (or designate) will serve as a liaison with lobbyists for the Georgia Pharmacy Association (GPhA), Georgia Hospital Association (GHA) and other healthcare organizations as needed, to discuss pending legislation affecting drug use or pharmacy
8. GSHP is also represented on the Georgia Pharmacy Association Legislative Committee by the GSHP Legislative Committee Chair (since 1999).

GSHP Membership Committee
This committee is for developing and implementing strategies to recruit and retain members; to assure a strong, effective organization through continued growth. In addition to the appointed Chair, each District Director serves on this committee.
Committee charges:
1. Maintain an accurate and current membership roster
2. Work with Executive Director of GSHP to develop a new member welcome packet.
3. Develop and Implement Strategies for Increasing Membership.
4. Develop and Implement Strategies for Membership Retention and Development

Organizational Affairs Committee
This committee shall review and analyze the GSHP organization and make recommendations to increase its effectiveness. It shall serve as a liaison between GSHP and other professional organization.
Committee charges:
1. Develop and provide ongoing review of administrative procedures for GSHP. Present proposals for discussion and new or revised procedures to the Board.
2. Liaison Activities: maintain open communications with other professional organizations such as ASHP, Georgia Pharmaceutical Association, Georgia Hospital Association, Georgia Nursing Association, Tri‑state Pharmacy Technician Association, and Association of Pharmacy Technicians.
3. Membership Services and Retention: evaluate quality of membership services and membership retention as part of an overall assessment of organizational effectiveness. The Membership Committee has primary responsibility for recruitment and retention programming.
4. Practice Standards for Pharmac: reference practice standards and statements established by GSHP and ASHP statements adopted by GSHP in the Procedure Manual. The Professional Affairs Committee shall be the primary body involved with development of practice standards.
5. Bylaws: refer organizational changes requiring Bylaws revision to the Bylaws Committee for drafting of appropriate language.

Professional Affairs Committee
This committee provides recommendations to the Board of Directors on policies and actions to be taken by GSHP on issues of professional practice. The Committee is concerned with 1) rational drug therapy; 2) professional practice opportunities for pharmacists; 3) practice standards for pharmacy; 4) cooperation with organizations in the health care field; and 5) research in pharmacy practice.
Professional practice activities include credentials for pharmacists, drug usage evaluation standardization, Joint Commission regulations standardization, and manpower reserves (pharmacists and pharmacy technicians) in pharmacy.
Committee charges:
1. Organize Leadership Forum to be held at each state meeting.
2. Incorporate ASHP's 2015 initiatives, Medicare part D, fostering leadership, emergency preparedness and discharge medication counseling strategies into upcoming leadership forums.
3. Work with communication council to provide link to ASHP for annual assessment of sterile compounding.

Public Relations Committee
This committee is responsible for providing the public with information and awareness of GSHP's mission and values through a variety of forums and media. GSHP's publics include, but are not limited to: patients/consumers and their families, industry, other healthcare professionals, organized healthcare executives, academia, pharmacists, technicians and other pharmacy support staff, and other pharmacy professional organizations.
Committee charges:
1. Participate in "Career Days" in middle and high schools.
2. Participate in DARE week
3. Participate in Poison Prevention Week

Student & Resident Affairs Committee
This committee works closely with the GSHP student chapters at the three pharmacy schools to maximize the awareness of career opportunities within health-system pharmacy. The committee also supports the development of residents interests to the GSHP board.
Committee charges:
1. Provide support and guidance for the pharmacy school chapters.
2. Support the development of resident, residency programs (pharmacy practice and specialty) and preceptors.
